After a wonderful seven years, our Welcoming a Greener Future project came to an end on Thursday 31 March 2022. Our project supported asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to practise sustainable living and reduce Scotland’s carbon emissions.

Since 2015 we have:

  • Saved 701.5 tonnes Co2
  • Held over 300 climate change activities
  • Engaged with over 2,000 people

Ashden Award winner

We demonstrated a strong commitment to reducing carbon emissions and making climate action relevant to communities who are not often at the center of climate talks. This approach led us to win the Ashden Award for Green Communities 2021.

This prestigious award recognises work which demonstrates how climate action can cut carbon and tackle social issues at the same time.

For more details and information on our project you can read our external evaluation of Welcoming a Greener Future by Centre of Human and Ecology here.

Thank you for making Edinburgh a greener & more Welcoming place

Thank you to everyone who engaged with the project. Your commitment to climate action and to reducing Scotland’s carbon emissions inspires us every day.

To all our partners and collaborators over the years, thank you for working with us to bring communities together and share in amazing opportunities and experiences.

We extend our gratitude to the Climate Challenge Fund team and the Scottish Government for their continuous support of our environmental work.

Finally, an appreciation to our incredible team at The Welcoming, volunteers and Board of Directors who contributed to our holistic approach for climate education and climate action.

Your work enabled New Scots to adopt sustainable practices in their everyday lives, leading to better community integration, interaction and cohesion.
