We’re thrilled to announce the launch of our latest short film heartfelt glimpse into the work of The Welcoming Association. Created in collaboration with Hugo Hemmati, a talented student filmmaker in Scotland, this film captures the essence of what we do: empowering New Scots to build brighter futures and feel at home in Edinburgh.

Donate to support refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants in Edinburgh who are building new lives in a new country. Throughout the year we provide free English classes, social activities and a weekly Community Fridge for New Scots, and we need your help to keep these services running.

At The Welcoming we have put together advice and information for people affected by the changeover from Biometric Residence Permits to eVisas with useful resources including links to organisations in Scotland and across the UK.

Our office drop-in hours are 9am to 2pm. From 2pm onwards, the office is only open for afternoon classes and scheduled appointments. Reception is closed after 2pm.

We have launched a quarterly newsletter to provide you with updates on our events, activities, political action and how you can get involved.

What our participants say
The Welcoming is a kind place full of interesting people. Wonderful teachers! You can learn without being judged.
When I arrived in Scotland I didn't speak English, just 'hello', 'yes', 'no'! Now I have 2 jobs and I'm a volunteer in a charity shop! I'm more confident!
Apart from English classes, you do something more important and of value for people, something that gives joy. You help create new lives. Thank you for your work and for building new dreams, new opportunities and new beginnings.
